David Joseph The Joy of Life

Joys of Life

This months selection is David Joseph ‘Joys of Life’, a timeless track from 1983. British producer, songwriter and keyboard player, David Nathanial Joseph, also part of the North London Brit-Funk band Hi-Tension with his brother ken Joseph.

David released the one solo album in 1983 which was produced by Godwin Logie, they produced 4 songs from this album on Island Records. Which of course were very successful, subsequently David left Hi-Tension in 84 hoping his solo career would take off.

david josephAlthough the most successful track from the album was ‘you can’t hide your love’, for me I’ve always preferred joys of life. In 1986 David and Chris Paul then collaborated on updated cover of Lonnie Liston Smith’s 1975 hit expansions, he also released a further 2 more singles, in 4th & Broadway.

mr solitaireIn 1982 David was credited for his backing vocals on a track Mr Solitare of animal nightlife. And again in 2011 for track traditional out of Cameron Pierres radio jumbo. I’ll never quite understand why David Joseph wasn’t a bigger star in the business, for me this Lp had it all great tracks like let’s live it , joys of life, and of coarse, you can’t hide your love.

It’s a great uptempo album, where David’s vocals shine through on every track. It’s a must have in anyone’s collection I’d say just all round great memories for me from his days with hi tension and bringing the continuation of that sound in this album shows through.
