Mercy Mercy “what are we gonna do about it”
A pure gem from 1985 and still sounds as fresh as a daisy, even though it’s now 33 years old. The UK’s Mercy, Mercy delivered a cracking UK dance track with gentle synths, one hell of a bass line and the main vocals provided by the legendary Colin Young, formerly of The Foundations. I recall tracks such as (build me up buttercup) and (baby now I’ve found you), Colin and mercy mercy had a very short career as a group, but they did bring us some cool tunes. Colin young’s early career in the music business as a singer, he actually replaced Clem Curtis of the Foundations in 1968 but he remained with the foundations until they split in the late 70s.
In 1984 Colin Young and Mercy Mercy had a hit with it must be heaven, which was followed up with this gem, in my opinion, a bigger hit ‘what are we gonna do about it’. Produced by both Colin Young and Luke Tunney.
Colin still continues to make music, so on that note I will leave you with where it started for him singing… ‘build me up buttercup’ from the foundations.
