INTRODUCING TOM GLIDE & ‘DIVAS GOT SOUL’
It is with enormous pride that I’m introducing you to a taster of Tom Glide’s ‘Diva’s Got Soul’ LP which is available on CD on TGee Records in May, Ramrock Blue vinyl at the beginning of August and digital download in September.
3 times Grammy nominated Tom Glide is an internationally renowned producer, composer & arranger whose career has spanned a prodigiously successful 35 years. He has scored major successes, almost too many to mention here and, in 2009, as Tom Glide & The Luv Allstars, Tom assembled a veritable Who’s Who of acclaimed performers including Rahmlee Michael Davis (trumpet), Larry Dunn (keys), Alex Al (bass), James Gadson (drums) and Rafael Padilla (percussion), Tio (aka Tim Owens) and Orlando Johnson (vocalists) and garnered global critical acclaim for their ‘In the name of love’.
Mr Glide continued to ride high on the international soul charts and when, in 2016, Tom mentioned to me that he had undertaken another massive project with 12 outstanding female soul artists, I was immediately hooked. ‘Divas Got Soul’ is not a compilation – it is a collaboration between Tom and twelve performers where each track is considered and executed to showcase & maximise their songwriting talents and vocals with Tom’s production and arranging skills complimenting the delivery of the album’s soulful content. It has been a huge undertaking and I’m sure you will agree with me that Tom and his Soul Divas have worked together to make something very special between them – ‘Divas Got Soul’ is a modern soul milestone.
Previously released tracks from ‘Divas Got Soul’ have included the double A side ft. Gina Carey ‘Tribute to the music’ & Nia Simmons ‘My Time (Shine)’. With his deft musical arrangement and composition on electric bass, electric guitar & keyboards, Tom has created ethereal musical togetherness with both Gina and Nia’s tracks. His same outstanding quality of musicality is applied to international gospel & soul singer Funmilayo Ngozi’s summer jazz groove ‘All I need is you’ and the combination of all three tracks will transport you to the land of eternal sunshine.
The forthcoming 12” release is Tom Glide & Chidi’s ‘Old Skool Dayz’ ft. Tom’s original mix & two North Street mixes from the don, Ashley Beedle – digitally released on TGee Records in May and on Ramrock Blue vinyl in July.
