In And Out
This month’s gem of a tune comes from non other than Willie Hutch titled in and out. This 1982 gem of a record takes me back to those fantastic times we had, I pasted my driving test in November of 82 so bought myself a mk2 2.0 litre ford Capri, i was one happy boy I can tell you .
Born William McKinley Hutchinson in 1944, Willie hutch as a teenager loved to sing, and at this early time, he joined a ‘doo-wop’ group and they called themselves the ambassadors.
In the early 60s Willie graduated from Booker T Washington high school for the performing and visual arts. He then shortened his name to Willie hutch, as he started his musical career.
Willie was a great singer songwriter, he also became a record producer and recording artist for Motown during the 1970s and 80s. Willie hutch also co-wrote many songs that were recorded by the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson himself. Also smokey Robinson the miracles along with Marvin Gaye, to name a few.
In 1973 Willie hutch recorded some albums for Motown after Motowns ceo berry gordy signed Willie as a writer, arranger, producer and musician. He also wrote some soundtracks for various films over the years including Blaxploitation – foxy brown and the last Dragon.
In 1982 he scored this disco hit with this month’s gem in and out which didn’t do well on the British pop chart only reaching 51 in the club’s it was a real floor filler and still is in my eyes.
Sadly Willie hutch passed away in 2005 aged 60
Thanks for the music Willie R.I.P.
